This seems in contradiction with 6vb.html - one says greater integration is good for intellectual progress, one says lesser integration is good. I think you want to bounce back and forth between the two modes.

Ah, To think thoughts fully uninfluenced by the surrounding society one has to be physically removed from it. actually talks about the community. But I haven't actually considered how it applies to individuals too. I think if the community is set up to honor differences of opinion, as long as everyone follows certain norms of discussion, then nobody has to be removed.
